I am Blessing Owusu, an altruistic teacher with a passion for purpose. Born in Toronto and raised in Vaughan, Ontario, I love helping others through volunteer work, tutoring, and teaching.
With a Bachelor's and a Master's of Education, I have five years of experience in education. I was honoured with the YRDSB Black Excellence Award for my dedication to service, evident in my teaching and my strong connection to my Ghanaian heritage. I take pride in using my role as an educator to discuss important topics and highlight my cultural background within children's literature.
My writing reflects my experience as a Ghanaian-Canadian, exploring my identity and balancing dual cultures. I aim to break the narrative that Black people only face hardships by celebrating successes and emphasizing the importance of identity.
I wrote “Abena's Adventures: A Taste of Home” to provide the representation I wished for growing up. I hope to continue Abena's Adventures as a series, inspired by my experiences and those of other African-Canadian families.
